Recently I stayed 16 days down in Puglia, on the east coast of the south of Italy, in the area of Bari. From Amalfi this was only a 300 km drive. Bari is a very large city with a huge port so not really a tourist attraction but the surrounding area is stunning and full of history and culture, as well as lovely people and amazing places to eat and drink!! See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polignano_a_Mare for some history.
We booked a small appartment on AirB&B and really hit the jackpot. Our little “house” was in Via Roma just outside of the central pedestrian precinct and only 100 m walk from the centre so very quiet and peaceful. And only about 100 m from the sea. We discovered that the town is on a small piece of land that pokes out into the sea so the climate is wonderfully cool morning and evening with a light wind always blowing. Perfect!
The sea is beautifully clean and there are some lovely sandy beaches nearby. Just look at my photos and you will see why I am so in love with this stunning part of Italy! PS update, now it is August and the area has heated up so July/August is NOT for the Brits!!! I suggest that June and September are the ideal months to visit.
