Piombino in Tuscany, what a discovery..

Like many, my only knowledge of the north Italian coastal city of Piombino was as a port from where to take a ferry to the lovely island of Elba. Indeed several years ago with a group of motorcycle friends we had ridden to the port and waited for the ferry, without even a glance at the city. Of course like most ports it was not too attractive but…..

Well I now know that this was a major oversight. Last weekend I visited Piombino to watch a game of basketball and stayed for 3 nights and wow what a lovely town to enjoy and explore! Italy has many hidden gems and this must be one of the best hidden! We were totally suprised as we had not expected to discover that this place is really WELL worth a visit and luckily our apartment was right in the centre so we could walk anywhere in the town very quickly!!!
