As you may know Italy is famous for hot water spas. That is not tap water but the very hot water that comes up from the depths of the ground at almost 70 degrees Centigrade, thus requiring to be filtered and cooled before the public are able to enjoy the benefits of the magic water. The Romans discovered the healing power of these baths and even today Italians can get time off work to Spa Therapy!
Around Naples there are some amazing baths and I have visited several times the amazing Terme Stufe di Nerone which is in Bacoli. The other one that we love to visit is instead in the south of the (massive) Campania region, it is called Terme Campasso in the lovely town of Contursi Terme. The water coming in to this place from the underground fault arrives at over 60 degrees C and therefore must be cooled and filtered before it can be used to fill the amazing swimming pools next to the hotel. The water is also blessed with a clay like mud which is said to be very good for the skin.
