When I visited the UK recently I needed a place to stay for 3 nights, in the Midlands. I used to live and work in this area many moons ago so I know my way around fairly well. My mate Barnes said that he knows a local pub/restaurant which has a few rooms so we phoned and booked a room, they only had a triple at 60 Quid a night so I booked.
The place in question is the Blue Boar and Brian pointed out that I am also something of a bore, so I headed over to check in. This amazing place has character to spare! The building dates from the 1940s (and could use a lick of paint), the owners are the 3 Sperrin brothers who also own another local pub the Lord Nelson plus the Sperrin Brewery! Now you’re talking.
The restaurant at the Blue Boar is called Churchills and has an excellent reputation, on Mondays they hold Steak Night, which is generally a sell out so book early! The bedrooms are ok, room 5 has a double bed and a single so plenty of space.
But for me the jewel in the crown is the beer. Goodness. Amazingly tasty beer and really really great people and service too. I will surely return here!

I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Blue Boar both my wife and I have eaten here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed by the food or service both are excellent. If you like a steak then this is the place to go the chefs there really know how to cook a steak properly unlike all the local so called steak houses.
The restaurant is generally full but they always mange to get you in if you’ve not booked.
The decor is very dated could do with a refresh and the pictures on the walls all faded but if you ignore this and just go to eat you won’t be disappointed.
Good and service 10/10
