We have come through the worst of the terrible COVID lockdowns and we hope to come to the end of the horrible battle in Ukraine. The world was locked down for 2 years ish and so there is now a massive pent up demand for travel and holidays. Add to this mix the fact that many aircraft were grounded and crews sent home so as demand returns the airports and the airlines are simply unable to switch back on flights to pre lockdown levels quickly as recruitement and training takes time when many crew decided to retire or to change their occupations.
The flights from the USA to Europe are basically sold out for the 2023 holiday season so many folks have decided to take a flight, any flight, which means that many famous holiday “hot spots” like Amalfi started to fill up in March rather than the usual May or June. Amalfi has a population of about 3,000 folks and this becomes 30,000 per day when things get busy. Indeed cruise ships park offshore and unload 2,000 to 4,000 passengers each to explore Amalfi and Atrani so the little towns become totally overwhelmed with visitors.
So the message must be DO NOT come to Amalfi by car!!! Come by public transport, also because the main car park Luna Rossa is closed so parking in this town, always at a premium, this year is even more scarce!! Train to Salerno then ferry boat to Amalfi is the ONLY way!! Bicycle is good too, thanks Don.
Local trains and buses are good, but the ferry is brilliant.
