The standard of driving in Europe seems to be heading downhill fast!!!

I am sure that my dad Tony would have said the same thing 40 years ago, I am very pleased (for him) that he is not around to see the plummeting driving standards that we seem to suffer today.

I travel by road alot in Italy mainly by motorbike and through Europe by bike, car or (mainly) van. I recently returned from the UK and I am planning my next trip to Croatia, Austria, France and the UK and return and I love to observe the other road users on the way.

It seems that indicators are totally a thing of the past for instance. Perhaps we all have a phone in one hand so mirror indicate manoeuver has gone to the dogs and one must now try to guess where drivers are heading. Even the big trucks indicate little these days.

BUT surely every modern vehicle has Bluetooth and speakers so we all have hands free available with zero effort?? So is this just laziness or perhaps folks like to keep their phones very very close. Not sure. In the UK talking on your phone or worse clicking on Facebook or whatever is VERY frowned on by the police whereas in alot of Europe it just seems to be the norm there days. Madness.

    Well Simon I would absolutely agree with you in England driving standards are horrendous. The worst offenders seem to be young women every time the traffic stops they instantly put there heads down and start texting the traffic moves but they don’t totally oblivious to what’s happening around them.
    I also agree about indicators usually German cars especially BMW don’t know if they’re a standard
    Fittment or an extra either way they don’t work.

    I like to ride my bike abroad where the standard of driving is much better more lane discipline and very courteous to other road users. You can always tell when you’re heading home about 10 miles away from the ports you come across arrogant British drivers hogging both lanes letting no one past typical Brits.

    It’s about time people realised they’re not the only people on the road and drove accordingly

    Driving standards have certainly gone down the tube here in the states as well. Cell phone use is not allowed in many states, unless of course it’s hands free but people still seem to ignore it and focus more on their phones than driving. Said this before, automobiles today have so much on the dash that it looks like an airplane cockpit, that alone is enough distraction without the cell phone. Every day on the road you see near mishaps caused by cell phones.

    Driving standards have plummeted just like levels of patience. Everybody is in a rush to go nowhere fast.
