OK here is my current quandry guys. I have decided to return one or even two bikes to the UK cos I am simply not using them, and at the same time I have my old Audi S4 up for sale.
Thanks to good ol Brexit (not) it seems that it would be almost impossible to have the car transferred onto Italian number plates so therefore selling the car “overseas” is off the cards. A very serious potential buyer is a director of Brembo in the north of Italy and he consulted a serious vehicle agency in Bergamo. They said that firstly the car must be legally imported into Europe so I would have to visit a Customs office in France or Belgium and import the car into Europe and they would require me to pay VAT so there goes perhaps 1k or 2k Pounds. Then I need a Certificate of Homologation, at least that is simple.
Then he would have to start the process in Italy to register the car. This would likely cost him between 2 and 3 thousand Euro BUT THE AGENCY WARNED HIM THAT THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE that this would work given that the car is coming from an extra EU country and they respectfully suggested that he does not go down this route. So in other words if this car came in from Nigeria then the procedure would be more or less the same so how crazy is that???
So I have decided that I will take the S4 back to the UK and sell her there cos this seems like the only sensible way to proceed. So drive her over or hook up a car trailer to my Vito van??? I wanna take 2 bikes back to Alf England so the best solution seems to be load the bikes into the van and then hook up a trailer (thanks Ricardo he has a great twin axle trailer BUT the 4 trailer tyres are more than 15 years old so I will have 4 new ones fitted before leaving) and load the Audi so kind of two birds with one slow stone.
The Italian motorway imposes an 80kph limit and the French motorways 90kph which is really er boring. In addition I will pay alot more for the motorway charges and for the Mont Blanc tunnel and the Channel ferry, but it will not be double so anyway still less than two single trips.
Here we go and please wish me luck!!! Well sad breaking news, Riccardo took the trailer for its MOT inspection and they gave him a booking in one month so I will go in the van and leave the Audi till next time…..
