Well in my opinion if there is one thing that the British do VERY well it is a museum. In particular I am a huge fan of the Imperial War Museums and the Duxford Aerodrome is one of their FIVE wonderful sites, it was one of the main airfields in operation during the Second World War and the Battle of Britain.
The airfield is still in operation today and when you visit the museum you can see aircraft taking off and landing quite frequently as they test fly the military plus some civilian aircraft. In the part of the site which is not open to the public there is always work going on to restore and to maintain the fleet. Several years ago racing motorcyclist Guy Martin was involved in the restoration work on a Spitfire and you can see something here on YouTube.
Please have a glance at the pictures below to get an idea of what this amazing place offers (and this was all in just the first of the 7 hangers so you really need a full day or two to get round the place).
