Dear Esteemed Bike Magazine,
I have been a reader of your rag since I was a young lad and my first visits to the Bol Dor in my college days were inspired by your photos and stories (a standing quarter mile?? We could stagger it maybe) a few ahem years have gone by and I still visit the Bol and Le Mans for the 24 hour races whenever possible
I have had many many bikes over the years and the vast majority Honda and Yamaha mainly because my best mate runs a dealership in the Midlands which was 100 percent Honda and is now Yamaha Premier and I always purchase from there, no rip offs and never stranded over all of these years kind of tells its own story.
I now live between the UK and Italy and the Italian weather means that over here I can use a bike all year round, I just get a bit damp in the winter but never really cold. I currently have 3 road bikes and one track bike and I love them from the WR250X, the XT660X and the MT10 and I use one of these 3 most days.
My question for you is this. I understand that some of the European manufacturers make great bikes which get amazing results on the race tracks both an and off road. BUT I read that the quality of the road bikes (thinking here of KTM) seems to be totally not acceptable and the UK dealer network unable to fix them. I read about engine failures at very low mileages. I hear from a mechanic that they had a bike overheating and discovered that the water pump had never been fitted!!! And so on.
You guys in the old days used to tell things straight, is that now a thing of the past cos you are invited to launches and get free press bikes and so you now have rose tinted specs like all of the other rags???
Shame on you!!!
