A few years ago I purchased a lovely 2012 Honda VFR1200F which Martin found for me, I asked him for a manual gearbox version NOT the DCT (which I never liked and is too complex when you think about a 10 year old bike). AND this one was second generation so with more fuel capacity and it had already had the important 24k mile service which is expensive as the valve clearance must be checked which on a V4 is complex and therefore very time consuming and expensive.
When my old mate Brian sold his bike he had only a car and when a mate asked him to join them on a bike tour of France he was very tempted to buy another one but……. which bike?? When I heard about his dilemma I offered him my VFR for 1k pounds less than I had recently paid for it simply to get him back on 2 wheels.
He accepted (he loved the bike when he rode it down to Lyon for me) and so he took a flight to Bergamo (which Ryanair call Milan Bergamo!!) where we met and he unloaded the VFR from my van and then headed north and fell in love with the bike. It just needed a new pair of tyres as the old ones had become very hard.
Well last week Brian rode down from his home in the Midlands via the Channel Tunnel to Bandol in the south of France where we met up to watch the Bol Dor at the lovely Paul Ricard circuit, then he returned to the UK WITHOUT EVEN STOPPING FOR THE NIGHT!!! Shaft drive, 170 horses, super comfy and Honda quality wow what an amazing bike!! Happy Barnes. She flies…
