It may well be that you have never heard of the area of Cilento. Nor had I until some friends organized a long weekend near Agropoli and we went to visit nearby (stunning) Paestum in the evening, it was lit up and the ruins are beautiful.
More recently we have rented a small house in Santa Maria di Castellabate for 12 months. This small town is only 90km by road from Amalfi but seems like a world away from the Amalfi Coast. The holiday season is very short just July and August and the town is very quiet indeed, very quiet and civilised.
The prices of almost everything are MUCH lower than those on the Amalfi Coast so shopping and eating out are a delight! A few photos follow to show our little rental house plus some views of the lovely town and waterfront. WELL worth a visit!! Oh, and a film was made recently called Benvenuti al Sud or Welcome to the South (of Italy).
